No matter where you go and what the role is, the likelihood that you would discover a woman earning less than a man in a similar position is inevitable. Natasha Burns, professor of finance at the Carlos Alvarez College of Business, has built her research career exploring how differences in people’s choices and values affect various market outcomes, including the gender pay gap.

Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Business Students Create Startup Companies During Immersion Experience

Seven Carlos Alvarez College of Business students are participating in the European Innovation Academy (EIA) this summer in Porto, Portugal. EIA is a three-week accelerated learning opportunity that focuses on entrepreneurship and includes students from over 80 countries. Teams comprised of five business students came together to experience the real-life process of building a startup company with the guidance of mentors from companies such as Google, Uber and Amazon.

The participants were Veronica Diaz, a MBA student, and Holly King, ’22 a graduate student in the master’s of economics program. They were two of only 180 students selected to participate nationwide.
