These 10-12 day intensive immersion programs, led by faculty members, offer students unparalleled opportunities to engage with local businesses and immerse in the rich cultural landscapes.

In addition to the trip, students earn academic credit for the experience and attend classes both before and after the immersion to study the history, culture and socioeconomic conditions of the country they are visiting. The experience culminates with a final project.

In Costa Rica 18 students visited local companies such as CINDE, Enel Green Power and Pozuelo and learned about renewable energy, non-profit investment services and food production. Students also toured a Walmart distribution center and the Starbucks Hacienda Alcasia, where they delved into the art and science of coffee production and sustainable agricultural practices. They also explored the natural beauty of the surrounding rain forests and the Arenal Volcano.

Reflecting on the overall experience Stacy Carrizales shared, “This immersion trip was transformative. It broadened my perspective on global business practices and deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity. The hands-on learning and cultural exchanges were invaluable.”

Students in GermanyAs part of the Germany immersion, students traveled to Berlin and Frankfurt and focused on gaining international business acumen as well as historical awareness. Twenty students visited companies such as Wolt, known for its cutting-edge food delivery and logistics services, and Babbel, a leader in language learning technology. These visits offered deep dives into the operational strategies, innovative solutions and global impact of these companies.

The students’ itinerary also included a visit to the historic Reichstag Building, offering insights into Germany’s political framework. A visit to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial provided a poignant exploration of Germany’s history, fostering a deeper cultural and historical understanding.

Cultural exploration was a significant part of the immersion with visits to majestic castles, historic cathedrals, bustling plazas and charming towns. Students savored traditional German cuisine, further connecting them to the local culture and enhancing their overall experience.

“This experience was one of the most transformative for both my educational and career development,” reflected Ba Nay Sar, a MBA student. “The Germany business immersion allowed me to gain first-hand insight into business practices that transcend national boundaries, deepening my understanding of different working cultures and the importance of diversity in the workplace.”

By combining academic instruction with real-world experiences, the Alvarez College of Business equips students with the knowledge, skills and cultural awareness necessary to excel in a globalized economy.
