Elaine Sanders, associate professor of accounting in the UTSA College of Business, received the Outstanding Educator Award from the American Accounting Association Southwest Region. The award was presented this month in Houston by the Federation of Business Disciplines.
Sanders, who has taught at UTSA since 1994, is director of the Master of Accountancy/150 hour program and is faculty advisor to the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting student organization.
“The Southwest Region of the American Accounting Association, together with the Federation of Business Disciplines, is a rich venue for scholarly interaction, cross-pollination of best practices, and faculty and student growth and development,” said Sanders. “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to present papers on behavioral and educational topics, to watch our doctoral students present their work (first as students and then as faculty), and to sit on panels and in discussion groups with some of the finest minds in our discipline discussing current issues of the day. I am humbled and honored to be recognized by my peers with this award. “
Known for her commitment to her students, she teaches financial and managerial accounting at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Her research focuses on judgment and decision-making problems in accounting and educational issues in teaching and assessing learning in accounting education. She received her doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.
The award is presented in recognition of outstanding teaching, research, program development and student mentoring in support of accounting education.
