Working with numbers may not be for everyone, but for Tracy Conner , it has become her passion. She will be receiving an undergraduate degree in both finance and real estate finance and development this month from the UTSA College of Business. Conner plans to continue her education and pursue a Master of Accountancy degree.
Conner’s major was undetermined when she arrived at UTSA, but she knew she wanted to be a part of the College of Business. “I wanted to pursue a degree that required me to think analytically,” said Conner, who is from Houston. “I learned early on that finance was the path for me based on the knowledge and guidance I attained from student organizations.”
Conner credits faculty members Ron Sweet and Ray Teske for inspiring her academically. “Professor Sweet introduced me to the world of security analyst and investing through challenging courses and taught me things that will be beneficial in my professional career,” said Conner. “Professor Teske taught the formula of professionalism and how to network through the real estate community.”
While at UTSA, she completed two internships with Harland Clarke Holdings: one in Accounts Receivable and the other in Business Continuity. Conner currently works full time at Rackspace as an accounts receivable specialist. In addition to her professional experience, Conner also served in numerous leadership positions with business student organization. She has been the president of the National Association of Black Accountants and the president of the Forum of Finance. “By joining student organizations I’ve learned to navigate through the professional world.”
Eager to share her knowledge with others, she encourages business students to get involved as soon as possible on campus. “I have received so many opportunities by networking in student organizations, and more importantly, I’ve made life-long friends. My time here at UTSA has been an amazing journey.”
