Evelyn Ekundare Distinguished Business Student Evelyn Ekundare has excelled as a student in the College of Business. Ekundare, a first generation marketing major and immigrant from Nigeria, knows firsthand the impact a small opportunity can have on an individual’s future.

“I am a strong believer that education holds the key to a better life,” said Ekundare, who is a senior from Houston. “I hope to use the degree and knowledge that I’ve received from UTSA to give the gift of education to underdeveloped areas in Western Africa.”

While at UTSA, she has been an active member of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, and Students of Valor. She was also chosen to participate in the college’s inaugural corporate visit last fall to AT&T and Southwest Airlines.

“Through Alpha Kappa Psi I learned to hone my professional development skills and gained greater confidence in my abilities,” she said.

With that newfound confidence, she was chosen last summer to be an Executive Store Intern for the Target Corporation, where she supervised 18 team members and five team leaders while managing the daily operations of their $65 million store. She also compiled analysis reports from customer satisfaction surveys from the past years and proposed changes to the store layout based on the analysis.

Ekundare credits her favorite professor Richard Utecht with inspiring her passion for marketing. “He challenges the way you think about business,” she said. “He encourages you to take your major into your own hands and make the most out of your degree.”
