The UTSA College of Business recognized scholarship donors and recipients during the annual Scholarship Banquet this week. For the 2017-2018 academic year, 177 students were awarded scholarships, and their average G.P.A. was 3.8.
“The students here today represent not only the present, but the future of the College of Business,” said Wm. Gerard Sanders , dean and Bodenstedt Chair. “I’m humbled to think what they’ll be able to accomplish once they complete their degrees.
“I like to think that we are in the business of making dreams become a reality here at UTSA.”
“My scholarship reignited my spark for learning,” said Stephany Ohaz , finance major and a Devin Newkirk Scholar. “These awards empower tomorrow’s leaders. Invest in your mind and invest in your goals to achieve success.” Ohaz was the youngest student selected for the Goldman Sachs analyst internship in New York City, and the first African American to be chosen from UTSA.
Over $300,000 in scholarships was awarded to business students. “I want to thank the donors who made this night possible,” said Holly Richards , executive director of development. “This was a record number of recipients as well as a record amount of scholarship dollars raised. This is all because of the generosity of our donors.”
“Because of my scholarship I felt a financial burden lifted, and it allowed me to focus more on my studies,” said Cesar Hance , a real estate finance and development major and Quincy Lee Memorial Scholar. Hance was the youngest person in Texas to obtain his real estate license. “I feel like I have a whole team behind me now cheering for my success.”
