Accounting students at case study competition Accounting students at The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business placed third in the ALPFA/KPMG National Case Competition.

Team members were Brianna Caban , Christa Patterson , Angela Sanchez and Richard Trevino . They were advised by Elaine Sanders , associate professor of accounting.

In preparation for the competition, the team met throughout the summer with their mentor to review competencies for the competition such as team building, presentation skills and report production.

Focusing on critical thinking, the teams received the case the day of the competition and had three hours to produce a complete presentation that included making recommendations for improving the financial position of a company. The following day they presented their case solution to the judges.

“Our team was insightful and fabulous presenters,” said Sanders. “They were able to think quickly on their feet for the Q&A and sacrificed their summer to prepare for the competition.”

The case competition is held annually at the ALPFA National Convention. Twenty-two teams competed in this year’s competition including finalists from Texas A&M, University of Houston and University of Texas at Austin.
