Outgoing associate dean Diane Walz and incoming associate dean Pamela Smith
After serving 12 years as the college’s associate dean of graduate studies, Diane Walz will step down from this administrative role on Dec. 31 and return to her faculty appointment as professor of information systems and cyber security.
Dr. Walz was instrumental in establishing new graduate programs such as the Ph.D. in Applied Statistics, the marketing concentration in the Ph.D. in Business Administration and most recently the Master of Science in Business and the Master of Science in Data Analytics.
During her tenure the MBA program was named the No. 1 program in the country by Hispanic Business in 2009, one of the top MBA part-time programs in the Southwest by BusinessWeek and received the Brillante Award for Educational Excellence from NSHMBA twice.
“Diane has done an amazing job leading the college’s graduate programs for the past decade,” said Wm. Gerard Sanders , dean of the College of Business. “Her service to the college is commendable, and her contributions to the growth of the college’s graduate program are unprecedented.”
Pamela Smith , professor of accounting, has been named the new associate dean of graduate studies in the College of Business effective Jan. 1.
“We are delighted that Pam has agreed to step in and lead graduate programming in the college,” said Sanders. “She will be charged with increasing graduate enrollment in the college and maintaining rigor in the college’s doctoral program.”
Since joining the College of Business faculty in 2001, Pamela has been a high-performing teacher and researcher. She was named a Dean’s Distinguished Fellow from 2012-2014 and was selected for the college’s Teaching Honor Roll in 2015. She has also been an active participant the PhD Project, which works to encourage the diversity of business school faculty.
