Asthana is an award-winning teacher and researcher who obtained his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin after working for 13 years as a senior manager and CEO in India.
“As chair, my priorities are to increase the enrollment in our various programs, incorporate cyber technology into our courses and align our objectives to match the university’s Tier One aspirations,” said Asthana, who is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation.
A widely-recognized researcher in the areas of auditing, pension accounting, capital markets and accounting information technology, Asthana has published in top-tier journals such as The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Information Systems and Journal of Accounting and Public Policy.
“Sharad is an accomplished scholar and teacher,” said Dean Wm. Gerard Sanders. “I am grateful that Sharad has agreed to accept this challenge and look forward to working with him in moving the work of the college and the Department of Accounting forward.”
