Business Ethics “The Ethical Dimensions of Cyber Security and Privacy” is the theme for the Business Ethics Symposium hosted by The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business. The symposium will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26 and is free and open to the public. The daylong program will begin at 2 p.m. and conclude at 6:30 p.m. All lectures will be held in the Richard S. Liu Auditorium (2.01.02) in the Business Building on the UTSA Main Campus.

“This symposium will look at ethical issues that come into play within the field of cyber security,” said Dr. Pepe Chang, assistant professor and coordinator of the college’s business ethics program. “The panelists will address employee privacy, security and privacy of client data and how to train employees to respect privacy issues.”

Dr. Frederick Chang, the AT&T Distinguished Chair in Infrastructure Assurance and Security at UTSA, will discuss “Securing Cyberspace: A National Priority” at 2 p.m. Chang is a leading expert in cyber security and his 30-year technology career has included a stint as the director of research at the National Security Agency.

Tom DeSot, executive vice president and chief information officer at Digital Defense, will present at 3:30 p.m. He will present on “Living in the Age of Anonymous.” DeSot is active in the San Antonio network security community and previously was vice president of information systems for Generations Federal Credit Union.

The symposium will conclude at 5:30 p.m. with a panel discussion “Business Ethics in Practice” featuring academic scholars and members of the business community. Panelists include Dr. Nicole Beebe, assistant professor of information systems at UTSA; Joe Oranday, enterprise security manager at Frost Bank; and John Vann, vice president of technical infrastructure and operations at Valero Energy Corporation.

The symposium allows students, faculty, business and community leaders to engage in an ongoing dialogue about the practice of business ethics and the role of moral wisdom for corporate social responsibility. For more information, call (210) 458-4313.
