Caleb Pendleton , a senior majoring in information systems at The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business, was one of 20 students nationwide awarded the Pearson Prize for Higher Education. This award, given by the Pearson Foundation, recognizes students who distinguish themselves through commitment to community service.
“It was an amazing experience to learn from other fellows about their community service work,” said Pendleton who received the $10,000 award this fall at a ceremony at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. “There are three things that I love: business, technology and helping people. I’ve been fortunate to be able to combine each of these passions in my life.”
Pendleton, a member of the Honors College, is the co-founder of a real estate company focused on assisting low-income families own homes. His volunteer work includes serving as a hospital advocate for the Rape Crisis Center, conducting environmental cleanups and helping the homeless in San Francisco and Mexico.
“We are honored to recognize a new group of Pearson Prize awardees,” said Pearson Foundation President and CEO Mark Nieker . “Each of the students recognized this year have demonstrated the values and ambitions that promise an exceptional future. The collective work of the fellows represents truly motivated young leaders. We are pleased to help them continue to achieve their dreams.”
