awards_staff The College of Business honored the accomplishments of staff members during an awards reception April 29. The Dean’s Excellence Awards were instituted by Dean Lynda de la Viña to recognize the accomplishments of professional and classified staff members who excel in their job duties in the college.

Two staff members were chosen for overall excellence as well as for excellence in community outreach and service.

Sandra Wenzel
, administrative services officer III, was named the recipient of the Dean’s Excellence Award. As the lead administrator for the College of Business, Sandy is instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of the college. Responsible for the college’s $20 million budget, Sandy is known for her hard work ethic, excellent communication skills as well as her generous spirit. According to her nominators, “Sandy’s unmatched knowledge of the inner workings at UTSA combined with an incredible work ethic is an asset to all in the college.”

The Dean’s Award for Excellence in Community Outreach and Service was presented to Issis Vela-Fox , director of student services in the Center for Student Professional Development. Issis has been a tireless advocate in the community and encourages student service learning through community service. She has facilitated numerous outreach programs including partnerships with the KIPP Academy, participating in the San Antonio Basura Bash clean-up, and mentoring student organizations.

Most recently, she was instrumental in facilitating the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute Future Leaders Conference, which featured workshops for over 150 students and culminated in a luncheon keynoted by former President of Mexico Vicente Fox.
