Presenting to a packed audience, Spielmann shared insights on his company's success, challenges that they've faced and tips for business students to be successful in the workplace.

"Throughout my career I've always looked for opportunities instead of focusing on challenges," said Spielmann. "We have the best people and the best product in the industry."

A leader in agriculture, NatureSweet® has never had a recall and has a low turnover rate of just 10%. "People make all of the difference for us," he said.

An industrial engineer born and raised in Chile, Spielmann has led teams in various roles, countries and industries. Spielmann’s career has been spent at notable companies like Procter & Gamble, Heinz, Del Monte Foods and Mars.

Spielmann noted three qualities necessary for success in business: agility, accountability and curiosity. "Change is a constant. Being able to learn, be curious and ask questions is valuable for employees as well as leaders. And, be willing to put in the work," he shared.

NatureSweet®, a leading controlled environment agriculture company, produces greenhouse-grown vegetables and is the #1 best-selling brand in tomatoes. NatureSweet® is the largest vertically integrated agriculture company in North America and employs about 10,000 associates with operations in the U.S. and Mexico.

The Frost Distinguished Lecture Series, which began in 1988, brings prominent business and community leaders to UTSA to share their knowledge and experiences with students and others in the university and business community.
