The UTSA College of Business awarded over $250,000 in scholarships to 123 business students this year thanks to the generous contributions of our benefactors. The students and donors were honored at a banquet this week recognizing their accomplishments.
Three students presented remarks on behalf of all scholarship recipients. They were Victoria Baldwin, a graduate accounting student; Lisa Cortinas, a senior cyber security major; and Kaitlyn Wehrheim, a senior cyber security major. Scholarship donor Martin Salinas ’94, spoke about the motivation behind his scholarship gift.
“The College of Business is giving students the tools to succeed,” said Salinas, who established the Jesus Rodriguez and Lorenzo Salinas Endowed Fellowship with his wife, Rebecca ’00, M.A. ’11 in honor of his grandfathers. “I couldn’t be prouder of our scholarship recipients and of their accomplishments.”
Three new scholarships were awarded this year as part of the 67 awards. They were the Francisca Villarreal International Business Endowed Scholarship, established by Tommy Stuchell, MBA ’10, the Melinda, ’83 and Danny Bryant Scholarship for undergraduate accounting majors and the Memorial Graduate Fellowship created by Elsie Steg in honor of her late husband, Albert.
“Thank you for your generosity and your investment in business students,” said Wehrheim. “My future is guaranteed with relatively little debt thanks to the scholarship awards that I’ve received.”
Each year a committee of faculty and staff reviews applications and selects recipients based on donor-determined criteria.
