Sheyenne Brubaker might not consider herself an overachiever, but when she graduates this May with her Master of Accountancy degree she will have completed three internships, one international experience and numerous leadership experiences in the UTSA College of Business.
A first-generation college student, Brubaker is president of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA). Following graduation, she has accepted an offer as an assurance associate with PwC in Dallas.
“My all-time favorite professor in the College of Business is Dr. Elaine Sanders ,” she said. “She is the faculty advisor for ALPFA and has supported me ever since I took her for Intermediate I in 2015.”
Brubaker encourages business students to get involved while at UTSA. “It is not enough to simply have a 4.0,” she said. “In today’s world employers want students who have put themselves out there through various organizations.”
While participating in the MACY program, her team was a national runner-up in the KPMG ALPFA National Case Competition, and she served on the Accounting Student Advisory Panel. She also participated in the college’s international immersion program to Spain.
“The most important lesson I have learned from the College of Business is to always put your best foot forward and if something doesn’t go your way try, try again,” said Brubaker, who is also a member of the Honors College and was a Distinguished Business student. “The College of Business really stresses how important it is to always be professional in all that you do, and I think it is very beneficial for long-term growth.”
Working to develop her professional expertise, she completed accounting internships with Rudy’s BBQ, Valero and PwC.
“Roadrunners aren’t afraid to get our hands dirty. We are hardworking, dedicated to what we’re doing and always complete the tasks that need to be done,” said Brubaker.
