Two College of Business undergraduate students majoring in infrastructure assurance were awarded inaugural cybersecurity scholarships from the Alamo Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).
The students are Senior Harold Davies and Sophomore Emily McMichael . Three computer security students were recipients of the scholarship as well.
“The field of infrastructure assurance is of vital importance to our national economy as well as to our national defense, as many of the threats we face today are electronic ones rather than military ones,” said Davies, a 14-year veteran of the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves. “The potential of UTSA in cybersecurity is matched only by the potential of the students that choose to study here.”
AFCEA is an international non-profit membership association serving the military, government, industry, and academia that advances professional knowledge in the fields of communications, IT, intelligence and global security.
Each year through the fall of 2014, $25,000 will be awarded to qualified students. Preference is given to students with military service as well as participants of a collegiate cybersecurity competition.
