Rolanda Quintana
Dr. Rolando Quintana , professor of management science and statistics in the College of Business, passed away on Monday, December 12. Quintana was born in Cuba on February 13, 1958. He was preceded in death by his father, Rolando Quintana. He is survived by his wife, Maria del Carmen Quintana; mother, Hilda Quintana; step-sons, Sergio Lopez and Edgar Lopez; and six grandchildren.
“Dr. Quintana was a caring, knowledgeable and respected professor who was appreciated by his students,” said Dr. Victor De Oliveira, associate professor of management science and statistics. “He was an extraordinary colleague and friend, always supportive and willing to help. He’ll be missed in the department.”
Quintana was a business faculty member since 2003. He previously taught at the University of Texas at El Paso where he was the founder of the Ergonomics, Safety and Productivity Applications Laboratory, the Center for International Manufacturing and a fellow of the Center for Teaching and Learning at UT-El Paso. His research and teaching interests were in the application of statistical quality control, sampling design, engineering statistics and predictive modeling in the areas of safety and manufacturing engineering and management and environmental management. He received his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from New Mexico State University.
In 2001 he was awarded a national technical innovation award from NASA for the development of a monitoring, control, tracking and prediction safety model, and he was also a previous recipient of the National Intelligence Certificate of Distinction for his electronic warfare work during the Gulf War.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15 from 3-9 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
