Finland immersion participants
Twelve business students traveled to Helsinki, Finland this June as part of the UTSA College of Business international immersion program. This was just one of six international immersion programs sponsored by the college this summer.
This 10-day intensive immersion program, led by faculty members, included academic presentations, visits to local corporations and cultural experiences. Prior to the immersion experience, students studied the history, culture and socioeconomic conditions of each country. Following the experience the students complete a final project.
“In today’s business world we must provide students with ‘flat knowledge’ that transcends traditional academic coursework,” said Lynda de la Viña , dean of the UTSA College of Business and a faculty participant on the trip to Finland.
The students were hosted by the Aalto University School of Economics. During the experience, the students visited five businesses in Helsinki. These companies ranged from biomedical to manufacturing and international consulting companies. They also toured cultural landmarks such as the Opera House and the island fortress of Suomenlinna. The students traveled to Stockholm, Sweden where they visited the home of the Nobel Prize ceremony.
Sixty-eight students participated in the college’s immersion programs this summer. Additional locales included the Canary Islands, Chile, Singapore/Vietnam and northern and southern Spain. In addition, the college sent students to China and Italy in partnership with the Honors College.
