kasey martin Kasey Martin, an accounting doctoral student in the Ph.D. in Business Administration program at the UTSA College of Business, received the Michael J. Barrett Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation.

Her dissertation, “Characteristics of Internal Audit and Fraud Detection,” tests audit characteristics that may have an impact on an internal auditor’s ability to detect fraud.

The dissertation award program provides funds to selected doctoral candidates interested in the field of internal auditing. Award submissions are evaluated on the relevance of the topic to internal auditing, the soundness of methodology, the coherent organization and clarity of presentation and the quality of the data.

Prior to entering the doctoral program, Martin worked as an internal auditor for a Fortune 500 company. She is a certified internal auditor and a certified public accountant. Martin will begin teaching at Texas State University this fall.
