John Calvert, administrator of the Inventors Assistance Program at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), will discuss intellectual property, patents, trademarks and copyrights during a presentation at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 29 in the Mesquite Room of the University Center (UC 2.01.24). The presentation is sponsored by the Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE). The event is free and open to all faculty, staff and students.
Calvert will provide illustrations of various types of intellectual property protection through real life examples and will discuss the effect of the Bayh-Dole act on sponsored research and university intellectual property. The USPTO has made outreach and education a high priority due to the increased interest in intellectual property both by business and educational institutions.
CITE is an interdisciplinary center in the UTSA College of Business and the College of Engineering. The center focuses on fostering the growth of entrepreneurs and new technology-based ventures through a process of education, experiences, resources and support.
