Bob Lengel
After serving as the college’s associate dean of executive education for more than 15 years, Robert Lengel has decided to step away from his current administrative duties to pursue his work in creative leadership beginning April 1.
Lengel is the founding director of the college’s Center for Professional Excellence, the Executive MBA (EMBA) program, the Leadership Challenge program and the For the Kids Dance Marathon project.
In support of this transition, Lengel has been named executive director of the newly-established Academy of Leadership and Transformation.
The academy will provide a clear strategic focus on leadership and transformation challenges. The academy’s mission will include expanding the Leadership Challenge program and the university-wide For the Kids leadership laboratory as well as offering customized executive training programs in leadership.
“The College of Business values the work that Bob has done as the architect for the college’s Executive MBA and executive education programming,” said Wm. Gerard Sanders, dean of the College of Business.
“He built these programs from the ground up, and he made a significant contribution to the college. I wish him the best of luck and look forward to working with him as he pursues this new path.”
Cheryl Linthicum, professor of accounting, has been named associate dean of MBA programs and executive education and director of the Center for Professional Excellence in the College of Business. She has been charged with curriculum development and oversight of the college’s EMBA and MBA programs as well as the promotion of non-degree executive programming.
“Cheryl is well regarded in the business community and brings with her considerable experience from academia and industry,” said Sanders. “She will refresh the EMBA and MBA curriculums and position them within the community as premier educational opportunities in South Texas.”
Since joining the College of Business faculty in 1993, Cheryl has served as a faculty member in the EMBA program, led international programs and served as acting department chair.
Notably, she was appointed to two terms as an academic fellow with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in 2006 and 2008 and worked with KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice in New York in 2009. Her work at the SEC has made her a leading expert in International Financial Reporting Standards.
