Martin Salinas receives award from Elaine Sanders
Martin Salinas Jr. , ’94 was named the 2014 Outstanding Accounting Alumnus during the Department of Accounting annual Accounting Stars luncheon.
Salinas was honored for his professional accomplishments in the field of accounting, his continued support of the UTSA College of Business Department of Accounting and his service to the community.
Salinas is chief financial officer at Energy Transfer Partners. He joined Energy Transfer Partners in 2004 as controller. Energy Transfer Partners is a Fortune 500 natural gas and propane company that owns and operates approximately 43,000 miles of natural gas, natural gas liquids, refined products and crude oil pipelines. He began his accounting career at KPMG, where he ultimately served as senior audit manager, working with clients in the energy industry.
Always willing to give back to his alma mater, Salinas serves as a guest speaker in accounting classes, volunteers at College of Business events and supports an internship program at Energy Transfer Partners that provides opportunities for UTSA accounting students.
He and his wife Rebecca , ’00, MA ’11 established the Jesus Rodriguez and Lorenzo Salinas endowed scholarship in honor of his two grandfathers. The scholarship provides support for students in the final year of their master of accountancy degree.
In addition to supporting UTSA, Salinas is also active in the community. Four years ago, he and his wife initiated an annual Thanksgiving dinner for less fortunate families at a church in Rebecca’s childhood community. Not only does he fund the event, but he and his family cook and serve the meal for all the attendees.
“Martin sets a distinguished example for new and future accounting professionals,” said Jim Groff , chairman of the Department of Accounting. “He has succeeded in his career through hard work and perseverance, and he continues to give back to his university and community.”
