Compensation Package

Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) and student grading positions for master's students are offered on a competitive basis. The typical compensation package for a GTA is below and the hourly rate for a student grader varies.

Master's Students
GTA Appointment (9 months)* $9,000/19-hour appointment
Student Grader (hourly) Up to 19 hours per week

*Must be enrolled for a minimum of six graduate-level credit hours during the fall and spring semesters and three graduate-level credit hours during the summer semester. Appointments are subject to satisfactory academic and work performance.

Eligibility

  1. Be admitted in academic good standing to a graduate program within the Alvarez College of Business, or already be enrolled in good academic standing in one of these graduate programs. Students with conditional or probationary status are ineligible.
  2. Make satisfactory progress toward a graduate degree and meet all milestones.
  3. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
  4. Minimum enrollment of six hours in a long semester (fall and spring) and three graduate-level credit hours in a summer semester to be appointed for up to 19 hours a week.
  5. Graduate students enrolled for less than six hours in the long semesters and less than one hour in the summer are ineligible for any graduate assistantship appointment.

Funding packages are typically tied to four-year contracts based on academic performance and availability of resources.

3New and continuing doctoral students are eligible for fellowship support, which is renewable based on academic and research performance. Awards are determined according to criteria established by the college's PhD Program Committee and are made upon departmental recommendation. 
4The fund is typically used for technology, research materials, travel to approved conferences and job market activities. Use of research support funds must be approved by department.

Fifth-Year Funding

Doctoral students completing their third year of funding are eligible for consideration for fifth-year funding. Selection is based on academic achievement, participation in national conferences, publications and research accomplishments.

Students approved for fifth-year funding receive an additional year of college funding equivalent to a standard doctoral package, following the conclusion of their fourth year.

Students who are not selected may still be eligible for departmental support, depending on departmental resources and approval.
