Dr. Wolfe earned a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati, an M.B.A from Xavier University and his Ph.D. in finance from Indiana University. Previously, Dr. Wolfe taught at the University at Buffalo (State University of New York). Prior to earning his Ph.D., he worked in the petrochemical industry in R&D and marketing. He also launched and ran a small business selling children's superhero capes online from 2009-2017.

Wolfe's research interests are in financial intermediation and empirical corporate finance. Most recently, he has worked on financial technology (FinTech) topics such as crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending.
