Moazzam Khoja

Bio

Khoja’s academic journey began in 2016 when, after two decades in the corporate world, he transitioned to pursue research and teaching. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Columbia University. During his 20-year corporate career, he progressed from an Analyst position to Senior Vice President at SunGard Data Systems, a Fortune 500 financial technology company now part of FIS.

Khoja completed his PhD at the University of Houston in 2022, with a dissertation focused on Financial Technology. Following graduation, he served as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin for two years, working under the mentorship of Cesare Fracassi in UT Austin's Fintech Research Lab.

Khoja's research and teaching interests center on financial technology, with particular focus on two key areas:

  • Blockchain Technology: Khoja conducts extensive research on cryptocurrency pricing and the market microstructure of Decentralized Exchanges, including platforms like Uniswap.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Finance: He investigates the application of large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT in financial markets, specifically examining their potential to predict prices and enhance market efficiency. His current research focuses on LLMs' ability to predict bond prices.

Khoja’s teaching philosophy revolves around his belief in the transformative power of AI. He believes AI will fundamentally reshape the workplace, and students must prepare for careers where AI proficiency is essential for productivity. His approach centers on empowering students to leverage AI as a learning tool, recognizing that the future belongs to those who can effectively collaborate with technology.

The critical skills for tomorrow's professionals include asking intelligent questions and synthesizing AI-generated information to make sound business decisions. Khoja focuses on developing these capabilities through interactive, discussion-based learning that enhances the educational experience for all participants.
