UTSA College of Business Receives Gift from Wachovia to Launch Signature Speaker Series November 17

The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business received $90,000 from Wachovia Bank to launch the Signature Speaker Series on Nov. 17 featuring Yahoo! Co-Founder Jerry Yang. The Signature Speaker Series will begin at 6:15 p.m. with a presentation by Yang, followed by dinner and an awards program at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in downtown San Antonio. All proceeds from the event will benefit student scholarships and programs in the College of Business.

Two individuals who have lent tremendous support to the College of Business will also be honored at the event. Jim Kahan, senior executive vice president with SBC Communications and chairman of the College of Business Advisory Council, will receive the Leadership and Service Award. Ernest Bromley, president and CEO of Bromley Communications, will receive the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.

The Signature Speaker Series provides a first-class opportunity for the San Antonio community to hear from nationally recognized business leaders and to showcase UTSA and the College of Business, said College of Business Dean Lynda de la Vi. We have just launched a strategic plan to raise the academic profile of the college to become one of the nation best business schools. This complements UTSA President Ricardo Romo mission to make UTSA Texas next Tier One research university. We are delighted that Wachovia shares our vision and has agreed to be the title sponsor of this event.

We are pleased to partner with the UTSA College of Business in such a meaningful way, said Mark Metcalfe, president of Wachovia’s San Antonio Region. Supporting the Signature Speaker Series is an excellent way for Wachovia to achieve its goal of becoming involved in the communities where we do business and contributing to their development as vibrant and economically thriving places for people to live, work and play.
