Technology Leaders to Discuss Careers in Information Technology During Oct. 6 Panel

Four leaders from San Antonio’s high technology community will discuss career options and answer questions from students during a “Careers in Information Technology” panel on Thursday, October 6. The interactive session will be held at 2 p.m. in the University Room of the Business Building (BB 2.06.04). The panel is co-sponsored by the College of Business and Career Services.

Panelists include Tom DeSot, vice president of operations at Digital Defense, Inc.; David Palmer, vice president of systems integration and integrity at Valero Energy Corp.; Frederick Mendler, director of customer care at Rackspace Managed Hosting; and Joel Patterson, technical manager of applications development at Computer Solutions, Inc.

The panel offers students who are undecided about their major a chance to explore occupations through the eyes of professionals working in the field. Current information systems majors can use the session to gather career advice as they approach graduation and job hunting.

The career panel is open to all students and all majors. Further information can be obtained from John Jennings, assistant dean for undergraduate professional development at (210) 458-4327.

UTSA’s Department of Information Systems offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in information systems as well as infrastructure assurance and security. The infrastructure assurance program has been named a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency.
