Leading Economist Ray Perryman to Headline Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series April 19
Dr. Ray Perryman, president and chief executive officer of The Perryman Group, will present the keynote address during The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Business Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19 in the Richard S. Liu Auditorium in the Business Building. The event is sponsored by the College of Business and is free and open to the public.
Perryman leads The Perryman Group, an economic research and financial analysis firm headquartered in Waco, Texas, that engages in a broad range of projects for governmental agencies and corporations. His studies have played a role in the creation and retention of hundreds of thousands of jobs. One of the world’s most influential and innovative economists, Perryman’s complex modeling systems form a basis for corporate and governmental planning around the globe. His thousands of academic and trade articles and presentations span a wide variety of topics, gaining him international respect and acclaim.
Perryman currently serves as a senior research fellow of the IC2 Institute at the University of Texas at Austin and a distinguished professor of economic theory and method at the International Institute for Advanced Studies. He has held numerous academic positions at both Baylor and Southern Methodist University during his career. Perryman has authored several books, including Survive & Conquer, an account of the Texas economy during the turbulent 1980s, and The Measurement of Monetary Policy, a treatise on Federal Reserve activity.
In the professional arena, Perryman publishes a subscription forecasting service detailing projections of state business activity and two monthly newsletters. He writes a syndicated newspaper column, hosts a daily radio commentary on economic affairs and appears regularly on National Public Radio. He is a past president of both the Southwestern Economic Association and the Southwestern Society of Economists.
During his more than 20 years of experience, he has received citations throughout the world from presidents, governors and Congress. He has been honored by the Democracy Foundation for his role in promoting capitalism in mainland China; the Asia and World Institute for his efforts to encourage international academic exchange; and the Systems Research Foundation for his contributions to the field of economic modeling. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Institute for Advanced Studies and was nominated for the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics.
Perryman holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Baylor University and a doctorate in economics from Rice University . A member of several corporate boards and adviser to numerous governmental leaders, Perryman has been honored by the Texas Legislature for his “tireless efforts in helping to build a better Texas.â€
The Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series brings prominent business and community leaders to UTSA to share their knowledge and experiences with students and others in the university and business community. The lecture series, which began in 1988, presents a forum for business leaders and academics to share their experiences in business so that students can broaden their understanding of the business world and the individuals who lead it.
