What is your minimum GPA requirement?
Although we do not have a minimum requirement, admission is competitive and an overall GPA of B (3.0) is required for admission without conditions.
Is professional work experience required to apply?
For most graduate degrees in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business, work experience is generally not required, but may be considered during the review process.
The Executive MBA (EMBA) program requires approximately eight years of professional experience with increasing managerial responsibility. Less experienced applicants will be considered if they can demonstrate exceptional accomplishment.

Do I need to submit official transcripts?
Unofficial transcripts must be submitted with application materials. If your application is successful, official transcripts are required from all colleges and universities attended by the end of your first semester. Transcripts must be received in a completely sealed envelope or emailed directly from the issuing institution to be considered official.

What is VIP admission?
The VIP Graduate Admissions Program was established to retain talented University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) undergraduate students and alumni in pursuit of their graduate education. As a benefit, selected VIP candidates are fast-tracked through the graduate admissions process to include an abbreviated application. All test scores and supplemental documentation for the graduate application are waived including:
- Statement of purpose
- Letters of recommendation
Can my GRE test scores take the place of the GMAT?
The majority of the master’s business programs will accept the GRE in lieu of the GMAT. However, there are a few programs that will only accept the GMAT or GRE. Please contact a Graduate Advisor to verify which test score is required for your program of interest.
Can the GMAT/GRE requirement be waived?
The GMAT or GRE is required for the majority of all applicants applying to the master’s programs in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business. The GMAT/GRE may be waived on a case-by-case basis based on an applicant’s extensive work experience, education history, etc. Please contact the colleges' Graduate Advising office at GradBiz@utsa.edu for more information on the waiver criteria.
What score should I aim to achieve on the GMAT/GRE?
While UTSA does not have a minimum score to be considered for admission, the GMAT/GRE is an important component of the application. Please contact the Carlos Alvarez College of Business Graduate Advising office (GradBiz@utsa.edu) for information on average test scores for the program of your interest.
GMAT/GRE test scores are valid for up to five years. You may take the exam more than once. The committee will consider your highest test score.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Do you offer assistantship positions?
Teaching and Graduate Research Assistantships are offered on a competitive basis. The standard appointment is approximately $3,000 per semester and students work 19 hours per week.
Are scholarships available?
Numerous scholarship opportunities exist in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business. Currently, the college annually awards over 175 scholarships totaling more than $200,000 each year to undergraduate and graduate students.
