College Hosts Technology Entrepreneurship Boot Camp Feb. 15
To help entrepreneurs and established companies commercialize new technologies, the UTSA Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship (CITE) will hold its biannual Technology Entrepreneurship Boot Camp, sponsored by Jackson Walker LLP, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15 in the Richard Liu Auditorium in the Business Building (BB 2.01.02) on the UTSA Main Campus.
The keynote speaker for the event is Peter G. Savas, CEO of StemBioSys Inc. a relatively young stem cell technology company with significant potential. Savas has assembled and led teams of respected directors, officers and advisors who have built and realized value from life science companies since 1991.
His teams have raised more than $200 million in equity and debt financing. Savas’ operating and executive leadership experience comes from large and small companies including Bristol Myers, Millipore, Aderis Pharmaceuticals and Alseres Pharmaceuticals. He has been a strategic partner in SV Life Science Venture Funds since 2002 and in 2013 became an associate partner in Targeted Technology Venture Fund 2.
UTSA’s boot camp will offer participants an intensive crash course on starting a business. Experts from companies such as Par Level Systems, Jackson Walker LLP, Pear Analytics and Leto Solutions, as well as from the UTSA Libraries and the UTSA Small Business Development Center, will discuss fundamental entrepreneurship topics such as identifying an opportunity, prototypes and manufacturing a product, securing start-up funds, business planning, protecting your intellectual property and marketing your innovative idea.
The CITE Entrepreneurship Boot Camp is co-sponsored by the UTSA College of Business, College of Engineering, Office of the Vice President for Research and Jackson Walker LLP.
Registration is free for UTSA students, faculty and staff, as well as students and faculty from other institutions of higher education. The cost for the general public is $95 and can be paid by cash or check starting at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event.
CITE is an interdisciplinary center of the UTSA College of Business and College of Engineering that fosters the growth of entrepreneurs and new technology-based ventures through education, experiences, resources and support.
