China Program Graduates 100th Student

The Liu’s Family Foundation U.S. – China Business Education Initiative program in the UTSA College of Business celebrated a milestone this fall with the graduation of its 100 th student from the certificate program. The program was established in 1998 following a $1 million donation from Hong Kong businessman Richard Liu. In 2003, Liu doubled his support and contributed $2 million to continue the growth of the program.

The key components of the Liu’s Family Foundation U.S. – China Business Education Initiative include supporting student and faculty exchanges, executive education, research collaboration and joint programs between the College of Business and top universities in China.

This semester-long program offers MBA student exchange opportunities in August and January of each year. The first class of MBA students began in August 2000. MBA educational exchanges have been established with five of the top universities in Beijing and Shanghai – Renmin University of China and the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing; and Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Tongji University in Shanghai.

In 2002 the program expanded to include executives from the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Personnel. Executives visit every Fall and participate in a semester of the college’s EMBA program.

This March a delegation of UTSA faculty and administrators will travel to Beijing and Shanghai to interview prospective participants at each of the five exchange universities, meet with alumni and further our relationships with local companies.
