Business Honors class

Equip yourself to become a successful future leader as a member of the Business Honors Program (BHP) in the College of Business. High-achieving students are encouraged to apply as freshmen, sophomores, or as new transfer students – to gain valuable academic and personal skills

You are able to participate in both the UTSA Honors College and the Business Honors Program, but should ensure you are able to complete the requirements for both programs.

Eligibility Requirements

Current UTSA Students

  • Must be pursuing a business degree: B.B.A., B.A. in Economics or a B.S. in Statistics and Data Science
  • Demonstrate high academic achievement with a minimum UTSA and College of Business grade point average of 3.25
  • Have at least 12 UTSA semester credit hours that apply toward graduation, with at least one semester completed at UTSA
  • Recommended for freshmen and sophomore students
  • Must be able to complete BHP course and program requirements

New Transfer Students

  • Meet all UTSA undergraduate admission requirements
  • Have a transfer grade point average of 3.5 or higher (minimum of 12 transferable college credit hours)
  • Complete MAT 1053 Mathematics for Business (TCCN Math 1324), or equivalent with a grade of “C-“ or better
  • Successfully completed evaluation under the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) for unencumbered registration for courses
  • Must be able to complete BHP course and program requirements

Program Requirements

Business Honors Program members are required to meet academic and experiential learning requirements in order to graduate with the Business Honors designation. Below is an outline of requirements.

-Maintain a minimum cumulative UTSA and COB grade point average of 3.25
-Complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours of business honors coursework. This requirement can be completed by combining any of the course options below:

-Enroll in any of the Business Research Competency courses: GBA 4023, GBA 4033, GBA 4933
-Enroll in an Academic Credit Internship. You must meet all academic credit internship requirements; see an academic advisor for details.
-Participate in three events every semester approved by the Business Honors Program.
-Complete two high-impact experiences as part of the Experiential Learning Four Pillars of Engagement.
-Meet with Business Honors Program staff once per academic year

-Maintain a minimum cumulative UTSA and COB grade point average of 3.25
-If you are pursuing a B.A. in Economics or a B.S. Statistics and Data Science must complete 9 credit hours of Business Research Competency courses.

REQUIRED: GBA 3013 Introduction to Academic Research (Fall);

and either:

Option 1
GBA 4023 Communication and Visualization of Impactful Research (Spring)
GBA 4033 Conducting Cutting Edge and Innovative Research and Discovery (Fall)

or

Option 2
GBA 4933 Honors Thesis (2 semesters/6 credit hours)

-Participate in three events every semester approved by the Business Honors Program.
-Complete two high-impact experiences as part of the Experiential Learning Four Pillars of Engagement.
-Meet with Business Honors Program staff once per academic year
