Andy Thomas challenges graduate students in the UTSA College of Business to get involved with student organizations and activities.
Since beginning his MBA studies at UTSA, Thomas has been an active member of the Graduate Business Association serving as an officer, executive vice president and president.
“The College of Business has a lot of opportunities and resources for its students,” said Thomas.
Last summer he traveled to Argentina and Chile as part of the college’s International Immersion Program.
“It was quite an interesting experience getting to see different cultures and companies,” he said. “I hadn’t been outside the United States before except Canada.”
In recognition of his involvement, he was named the Outstanding Graduate Student in the College of Business last spring.
When he is not promoting the college’s Graduate Business Association, Thomas works as a contract closeout specialist at the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind & Vision Impaired. His job is to make sure that military contractors are paid in full and to recover the money left over in those accounts.
Thomas was recognized by the Lighthouse in December 2015 as the production Employee of the Year for his efforts in closing more than 400 contracts that resulted in the de-obligation of $2.2 million for the federal government.
“There are no limits to what blind people can achieve,” said Thomas, who is visually impaired and has worked in his current position since 2009.
