Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.
-Peter F. Drucker
Leadership skills are important for everyone, even people who do not consider themselves natural leaders. The UTSA College of Business Center for Student Professional Development’s (CSPD) goal is to cultivate leadership skills in our business students. Successful leadership involves managing relationships and effectively communicating with one’s team. Being an effective collaborator is the first step to becoming a leader. Moreover, one of the primary building blocks of leadership is the ability to be coached. Trainable students are highly valued by employers.
It is through experiencing and practicing leadership skills that students truly learn how to become strong, successful leaders. The CSPD offers leadership development opportunities within the College of Business to help students strengthen their ability to express their vision, motivate others to achieve results, encourage teamwork and cooperation and lead by example.
Watch out for leadership speakers we bring in throughout the semester! What can you do to practice your leadership skills in the meantime? The College of Business encourages students to complete 21 Actions, many of which focus on developing leadership. Take control of your future and start checking off actions now!
