The University of Texas at San Antonio, Department of Accounting
Non-Tenure-Track Position in Accounting

The University of Texas at San Antonio, Department of Accounting, invites applicants for a non-tenure-track position, beginning Fall 2018.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications: A minimum of a master’s degree in accounting (or related area) and professional certification, such as a CPA, with 5 years of teaching experience in an equivalent university setting is required. A Ph.D. in Accounting, Auditing, or Taxation, and 2 years of teaching experience may substitute for the Master’s degree and 5 years. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, and the ability to teach either taxation, financial accounting, or auditing at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability and desire to work collegially with faculty and students from diverse cultural backgrounds. Candidates will be expected to participate in departmental service activities.
  • Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree is preferred. Prefer candidates with teaching experience in financial accounting, auditing, or taxation.

UTSA’s Department of Accounting

The Department of Accounting consists of 25 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting. The Ph.D. program is in its 15th year and currently has 10 full-time students. Instructor teaching loads of three to four courses per semester, and contracts of one to three years duration (renewable) are negotiable based on applicant qualifications and departmental needs.

The College of Business at UTSA is one of the largest business schools in the nation, is AACSB accredited, offers a variety of masters’ programs as well as Ph.D. programs in six areas, and ranks second in the nation in the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics. UTSA is a comprehensive public metropolitan university that serves approximately 30,000 students on three campuses in San Antonio. It has the express goal of reaching Tier One research status. It is located at the edge of the scenic Texas Hill Country and offers the amenities of a major multicultural, metropolitan area. With a population of over 1.3 million, San Antonio is within a few hours’ drive of Dallas, Houston, the Gulf of Mexico and the Mexican border. Major industries include healthcare and biosciences, finance, tourism and military.
