CIAS to Sponsor Texas Infrastructure Protection Symposium August 5-6

July 1, 2004

The UTSA Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security will sponsor the Texas Infrastructure Protection Symposium Aug. 5-6 on the 1604 Campus. This national symposium will discuss sector-based communication and information sharing issues.

“The protection of the nation’s critical infrastructure has received increasing attention in recent years,” said Greg White, interim director of the CIAS and associate professor of information systems. “A necessary component in infrastructure protection is the sharing of information between various sectors.”

U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith will present the keynote address at 12:55 p.m. in the Retama Room of the University Center. Other featured speakers include Robert Liscouski, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; Suzanne Gorman, chair of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center; and Maj. Gen. Paul Lebras, commander of the Air Intelligence Agency and the Joint Information Operations Center. Breakout sessions will include discussions on intrusion detection, wireless security, national guidance and legal and policy issues.

CIAS was established in 2001 to leverage San Antonio’s infrastructure assurance strengths and to bolster research and educational initiatives in this field. This multidisciplinary research center partners with the San Antonio community to address the technical and policy issues of information assurance.

Registration is $250 for the conference. Discounted rates for government officials, ISSA members, InfraGard members and students are available. For more information and to register for the symposium, visit the CIAS Web site at www.utsa.edu/cias.
