May 10, 2002

Bartlett Cocke Jr., the college's Executive-in-Residence, has established an endowed scholarship in support of his commitment to the college. Bartlett Cocke Jr., the college's Executive-in-Residence
The scholarship fund was established following a lead gift from Cocke of $25,000. Bolstered by gifts from past participants in the monthly Executive-in-Residence luncheon program, the fund has already grown to $100,000.

For the past three years Cocke has invited business and community leaders to campus to meet with faculty and administrators and learn about the college. These meetings helped build relationships with a broad cross-section of community leaders. Endowment donors include Robert Ayres Jr., Broadway Bancshares Inc., James M. Cavender III, Charles Cheever Jr., Jack Guenther, Ruth Eilene Sullivan and Mary Beth Williamson.

Cocke started a one-person remodeling operation in 1959 which has grown into a commercial construction company that has completed approximately 500 buildings and $1 billion in total revenue. Cocke served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Bartlett Cocke, Inc. from 1959 to 1994. He continues to serve on the board of directors today.

The endowed scholarship will be awarded to top undergraduate and graduate business students.
