UTSA Alumnus Gives 100,000 Shares of Company Stock to College of Business

January 7, 2002

William E. Morrow, founder, vice chairman and CEO of Grande Communications.William E. Morrow, founder, vice chairman and CEO of Grande Communications, and his wife, Traci, have donated 100,000 shares of Grande Communications stock to the UTSA College of Business.

"This act of leadership is another powerful sign that our alumni are ready to step up and demonstrate personal commitment to the goal of UTSA reaching for and attaining top-tier research status," said UTSA President Ricardo Romo. "This gift sets a wonderful example for other entrepreneurs to follow."

Morrow serves on the UTSA College of Business Advisory Council and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from UTSA in 1986.

"We are excited that Bill has made this leadership gift to the College of Business," said Dean Bruce Bublitz. "In making it, he has given us the flexibility to decide how funds can be most effectively spent, ensuring that emerging opportunities, changing needs and new directions can be addressed."

During his senior year at UTSA, Morrow's thesis project examined the idea of building "smart homes"--houses wired for every service and convenience a homeowner could imagine. Grande's broadband network delivers on this very concept. The company offers high-speed Internet, telephone and cable television entertainment services to homes and small businesses.

Morrow founded Grande Communications in 1999 after serving as director of ClearSource, Inc., a telecommunications company offering bundled services to residents and businesses in several second-tier Texas markets including Corpus Christi, Amarillo, Waco and Midland-Odessa. Morrow also served as vice chairman and CEO of Knology Communications, building broadband networks throughout the southeastern United States.

Grande is the first company to begin building a brand-new fiber rich broadband network throughout the I-35 Corridor and the first to offer bundled broadband services to Austin, San Marcos and San Antonio residents. Grande's services include residential and business digital cable, telephony and high-speed data. Grande has grown to more than 500 employees and earned approximately $100 million in revenue for 2001.
