Business NewsThree College of Business Faculty Members to Receive President's Distinguished Achievement Awards—May 1, 2001 Three College of Business faculty members will be presented with President's Distinguished Achievement Awards during the annual ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 in the Regents Room.
Vince DiMartino, lecturer III in economics, is the recipient of the teaching excellence award for non-tenure track faculty. A graduate of UTSA, DiMartino has taught as UTSA since 1987. An advocate of team learning and problem-based learning approaches, DiMartino is also a faculty associate for UTSA's Teaching and Learning Center. His courseload varies from teaching core curriculum undergraduate courses to managerial economics courses for graduate students. A demanding instructor, he primarily gives essay or problem exams which he grades personally. He also assigns term projects or papers to his upper division students while still finding time to supervise independent study courses and internship students.
Keating is one of five faculty members who have participated in the new freshman seminar program. During courses that he taught this fall in the program, he received one of the highest ratings of all faculty teaching these seminars. Keating employs a variety of teaching methodologies to motivate his students. He places all lecture notes and practice exams on his Web site and provides real-life applications for problem studies. Keating received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in mathematical sciences from the University of Texas at Arlington.
"Publishing at this level usually requires years of painstaking work just to collect the necessary data. In addition, the required theoretical and statistical analyses are also extremely time consuming. Such a research record is truly outstanding and extremely rare," said Lila Truett, director of the Division of Economics and Finance. His research deals with topics such as corporate capital structure, capital budgeting and stock market trading returns. Prior to teaching at UTSA, he was at the University of Houston and American University. Kadapakkam received his doctorate in business administration from the University of Michigan.
