Werling Establishes Endowed Scholarship

Oct. 17, 2000

Steve Werling Steve Werling, a Senior Lecturer in Management & Marketing, and President of Werling Associates, Inc., has established a $10,000 endowed scholarship for Human Resource Management majors. It will be called The Werling Associates Human Resource Management Endowed Scholarship.

"This is our first endowed scholarship for Human Resource Management majors, and first endowed scholarship in the college established by a faculty member," commented Jim Eskin, the college's Development Officer. " We are hoping Steve's lead gift might spur other business faculty to consider an outright or planned gift."

Steve began sponsoring an annual $1,000 scholarship earlier this year, which he will continue to do until the endowment reaches a sufficient level to self-fund.

"My experience as a faculty member for the UTSA College of Business has added value to my consulting practice," commented Werling. "Taking this step to endow the scholarship is a way to give back to the College. I have increased credibility with my clients because of my faculty experience here, and that translates to a tangible benefit to me and my consulting business."

Steve formed Werling Associates in 1986 and advises clients on compensation and incentive system design as well as skill-based selection processes, performance management, strategic human resource management and other technical human resource fields.

Anyone who knows Steve, knows that he truly enjoys interaction with students. He currently serves as faculty advisor for the Human Resource Management Association student organization and their student team that won the regional Human Resources Collegiate Competition earlier in the year, and then placed third in the national competition.
