National Association of Home Builders Builds Scholarship Fund
—Oct. 17, 2000
The building
development program has a long history in the business college. Effective
with the 2000-01 catalog, the program name was changed to Construction
Management to better reflect their direction. This program started
out as a concentration under the management degree designation and
then moved to a stand alone B.B.A. in Building Development. It has
always had close ties with the University's architecture program.
In 1997 Ron Rutherford was hired as the E.J. Burke, Jr. Chair in Building
Development and assumed the coordination responsibilities for the
program.
One thing that
has remained constant is support the program receives from the National
Association of Home Builders. They participated in the original
endowment gift lead by Betty Burke, in memory of her husband, Elmo
James Burke, Jr., and attorney and prominent homebuilder in San
Antonio.
Recently the
local chapter of the National Association of Home Builders presented
the College with checks totaling $2,240 for their annual scholarship.
This includes a match from their national association.
Presenting checks
to the Dean and Ron Rutherford were:
- David Anderson,
President of Greater San Antonio Education Foundation
- Bob Earl,
President, Greater San Antonio Home Builders Association, and
President, Casa Linda
- Cheryl Garcia,
Chair of the new Advisory Council for the Construction Management
Program of the Greater San Antonio Education Foundation (Cheryl
is Chief Operating Officer, All Season Moving & Storage, Inc.,
and a graduate of the inaugural EMBA Class)
Wendy Frost—
