Faculty Session Topic:
What do ICIC and Economic Development have to do with Strategic Planning Anyway?

Harvard Business School's C.R. Christensen Professor of Business Administration, Michael Porter, established the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City in 1994. Dr. Taylor's presentation will explore the connections between ICIC, Economic Development, and Strategic Planning.

Community Session Topic:
ICIC - Does Porter's Model Add to the Economic Development Mix? Dr. Taylor will overview the history and current programs of both the national Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) and the local Kansas City program, ICIC-KC. Taylor will explore the power of "connecting the dots", i.e., cooperative partnerships among the business, public, not-for-profit, and academic communities. These links are currently a focus in Kansas City efforts. The presentation and discussion will focus on the potential in San Antonio in incorporating ICIC initiatives in the current economic development initiatives.
