Stephanie Dalmau Looks at Business Globally
May 5, 2015

Stephanie DalmauInternational business and finance major Stephanie Dalmau will complete her UTSA journey this Sunday when she receives her BBA--graduating cum laude with international distinction and highest honor.

A native of Peru, Dalmau built upon her international background to pursue not one, but two majors in the College of Business.

Making the most of her experience, Dalmau participated in a study abroad program and went to Costa Rica with a group of students to assist with a microloan program established by finance faculty member Ron Sweet.

“I like to push myself to do the best that I can,” said Dalmau, who originally intended to attend UT-Austin. “Once I got to know the people here and interact with the faculty, I decided to stay. I made a great choice.”

As part of her honors thesis, Dalmau conducted research with Stewart Miller, chair and professor of management. Her paper was focused on international trade between Peru and the United States since the implementation of the Trade Promotion Agreement in 2009.

“We expected trade to be better in the U.S. and Peru, but worse for the other South American countries,” said Dalmau. “What we found was that trade improved for the U.S. from Peru, but that also other South American countries benefited from the agreement as well.”

Returning to her family in Houston, Dalmau has interned the past two summers with Repsol Oil and Gas. Her first internship was in human resources, and her last internship was in audit and controls. “I chose these internships so I could learn areas of business outside my academic studies,” said Dalmau. “I like to look at business from all perspectives.”

Always wanting to work in a corporate environment, Dalmau applied for an internship with J.P. Morgan and instead was offered a full-time position as an operations analyst in their Development Program.  She will train in New York for three weeks, then begin a two-year rotation with the company in San Antonio.

“I’ve enjoyed being at UTSA,” said Dalmau.  “But, I’m ready to move on to the next chapter in my life. My UTSA experience has made me more independent, and I’m leaving with my dream job.”
