Ju Xiang has become the first graduate of the College of Business doctoral program. Xiang successfully defended his dissertation, "Four Essays on Information Implication of Trades in Future Markets," on Oct. 28. His dissertation advisor was Yiuman Tse, professor of finance. He will receive a Ph.D. in business administration with a concentration in finance.

Xiang was a member of the founding doctoral class when the program began in 2002. He received his bachelor of economics from the Central University of Finance and Economics in China and his master of economics from the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration in Finland.

"I'd like to express my appreciation to the College of Business," said Xiang, who is currently interviewing in New York for a faculty position. "Without the great efforts jointly from the Finance Department and the Graduate Office, it would not be possible for me to successfully complete my studies here.

"I will remain forever indebted to the superb group of faculty and staff in the College of Business. They have each made this program successful."

Xiang's research interest is international financial markets. Upon completion of the program, Xiang has one accepted journal article, "Market Quality and Price Discovery: Introduction of the E-mini Energy Futures" in the Global Finance Journal and numerous conference presentations.
