The Department of Finance at UTSA offers a dynamic curriculum that prepares students in all programs for the real management challenges that lie ahead. Our courses have been designed to provide a framework of knowledge and thinking skills that students draw on for the duration of their professional lives.
BBA-Finance provides a forum for students to study the basic and applied theories of finance, and to apply the skills and techniques needed in managerial financial decision making. Finance covers raising capital for and allocating capital to various corporate activities. Sub-specializations in finance include corporate finance, investments, banking, insurance, real estate and financial institutions and markets. In addition, a minor in finance is available only to students pursuing a BBA degree.
BBA-Real Estate Finance and Development is designed for students interested in managing businesses associated with real estate and the planning, financing, developing and construction of building projects. Graduates will be able to explore career opportunities in areas such as financial analysis, market analysis, mortgage banking and real estate finance, real estate development and real estate investment. Students have the opportunity to minor in either building development or finance. The building development minor is offered in conjunction with the School of Architecture.
MBA concentration in Finance is designed to offer the opportunity for qualified graduate students to study business administration at the graduate level with an emphasis in finance. It particularly assists students in preparing for finance-related careers in the business environment or for graduate study in finance at the doctoral level.
The MBA concentration in Real Estate Finance is designed to offer the study of business administration with an emphasis in real estate finance. It assists students in preparing for real estate careers in the business environment.
Master of Science in Finance General Option provides an intensive education in various aspects of finance, including markets and institutions, corporate finance, international finance, financial modeling, and investments including derivative securities. Emphasis is on theoretical aspects of finance, developments in financial instruments and markets, and practical application tools and techniques. The program is designed to train students to be financial managers and analysts in corporations, banks and investment institutions. It also provides the opportunity for students to prepare to undertake specialized certification examinations and doctoral studies in finance.
The Master of Science in Finance concentration in Real Estate Finance prepares the student for real estate careers in the field of finance.
Master of Science in Construction Science and Management. The 33-hour degree program is a collaborative effort between the College of Business and the College of Architecture at UTSA. The program will focus on the managerial aspects of the real estate finance and development industry and will complement the technical undergraduate program in construction science.
Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Business Administration with an Emphasis in Finance. The doctoral program in finance prepares its graduates primarily for careers as university professors focused on research and teaching. The skills acquired by graduates will also enable them to consider careers as researchers in government and industry.
