What is economics all about? Economics studies how individuals, institutions and societies make choices on how to best utilize their resources. Economics provides a logical way of analyzing a variety of personal, public and social issues.

The department boasts 13 full-time faculty members who are committed to excellence in teaching and research. Department members have been honored for their excellence in teaching innovation and research productivity through college and university awards.

UTSA’s Department of Economics offers a flexible curriculum that allows students a variety of choices.

At the undergraduate level, students can choose between a bachelor of arts in economics, which provides a liberal arts education, or a bachelor of business administration degree in economics, for those who desire a career path in the business world.

Graduate students can pursue a master’s of arts degree in economics or a concentration in business economics in the M.B.A. program. The M.A. program provides a foundation for students to carry out advanced economic analysis with modern analytical and computational tools. Fields of study include econometrics, forecasting, microeconomic analysis and international economics. The M.B.A. concentration allows students pursuing this degree path to place a special emphasis on business economics.

Beyond the classroom, economics students can join the National Association for Business Economics or pursue a variety of internship and scholarship opportunities. Economics counts in the UTSA College of Business.
