The Cyber Center for Security and Analytics
The Cyber Center for Security and Analytics

Overview
The Cyber Center for Security and Analytics at the UTSA College of Business conducts research on a wide variety of cyber security and cyber analytics topics including

  • conducting high-impact applied research to better secure people, organizations and their data,
  • improving cyber-related decision making through advanced analytics, and
  • solving real-world problems for a myriad of industry and government partners through a decidedly multidisciplinary approach.

The center also plays an important role pioneering innovative, world-class educational programs. Examples of educational initiatives the center engages in include UTSA's No. 1 ranked cyber security program, the college's cross-disciplinary data analytics degree and UTSA's innovative bio/cyber program to combat digital and biological pathogenic outbreaks. The center directly supports the U.S. CyberCorps program, the U.S. Army Reserve's Public Private Partnership for cyber security education and several other key programs of national scope and importance.

History

The center was established in 2010 as the Center for Education and Research in Information and Infrastructure Security (CERI2S) under the leadership of Dr. Fred Chang. Dr. Glenn Dietrich served as the director from 2011 until 2015. During this time, CERI2S made significant contributions to the UTSA cyber security program, both within and outside the College of Business. For example, CERI2S spearheaded the effort that resulted in UTSA being selected as one of the original six (and now eight) preferred cyber security education programs that focuses on educating the U.S. Army Reserve's Cyber Work Force. The center also made significant knowledge contributions to the cyber field, conducting research into insider threat, digital forensics, cyber physical systems, cyber security management and strategy, applied network and information systems security, economics of cyber security and psychology and cyber security.

In 2015, Dr. Nicole Beebe became the Director of CERI2S. The Center was renamed in 2017 and its mission expanded to better address the evolving research and education needs in cyber security and analytics spheres. Dr. Paul Rad accepted the position of Associate Director of The Cyber Center in fall 2017. His expertise in the areas of cloud security and deep learning will allow the center to further enhance its impact.
