Lawver Named Director of Advising
April Lawver has been named director of advising in the UTSA College of Business. Lawver has worked in higher education for the past 10 years. Since 2006, she has served as an academic adviser in the college’s Undergraduate Advising Center.
Lawver’s new duties include managing the daily operations of the college’s Undergraduate Advising Center, supervising staff, overseeing budgets and advising students. Undergraduate Advising, one component of the college’s Center for Student Professional Development, comprises 16 advisers and two administrative staff members located at both the Main and Downtown campuses.
Lawver received her master’s degree in instructional technology and her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from UTSA.
College Names Director of Student Services
The Center for Student Professional Development (CSPD) in the UTSA College of Business has named Julio J. Ramos as the new director of student services.
He comes to the College of Business having previously served as the assistant director for UTSA Orientation and Family Programs.
Ramos will be responsible for the center’s H-E-B Career Action Program and the Business Scholars Program. He will also advise the Business Student Council and develop new student leadership programming.
Originally from Del Rio, Texas, he received his undergraduate degree in management from UTSA and MBA in marketing from Our Lady of the Lake University.
The CSPD provides academic advising and career preparation programs and services. By combining theory with practice, the center helps students develop a balanced portfolio of academic, career readiness and leadership skills to place them on the path to professional success.
International Director Named
Lisa Gomez has been named director of operations for the college’s International Relations office.
Gomez has previously worked as a program director in the Center for Student Professional Development, as a legislative director with the Texas House of Representatives and in Cambodia with the United Nations Development Program Elections Team.
With her strong international background and experience in managing long- and short-term projects, Gomez will be responsible for directing the college’s International Relations office, scheduling programs and events, coordinating logistics for domestic and international programs and managing program budgets.
She holds a master’s in international peace studies from the International University of Japan and a bachelor’s from the University of Redlands.
CSPD Names Assistant Director
Rosa Garza has been named assistant director for student services in the Center for Student Professional Development (CSPD). She has worked in student development at UTSA since 2006, most recently as an academic adviser and instructor in the Freshman Seminar program.
She will manage CSPD events at the Downtown Campus and coordinate programming and services for the Business Scholars Program.
Garza has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a law degree from St. Mary’s University.
Staff Members Honored During Awards Ceremony
Three College of Business staff members were recognized for their outstanding leadership and service at the spring College Awards Reception.
Recipients of the Dean’s Excellence Award were Administrative Associate Maureen Bird and Senior Administrative Associate Mary Kalicki. Bird, a member of the Dean’s Office, is responsible for organizing and planning special events for the college. Most recently she has organized the college’s Briefcase Brigade.
Kalicki is always willing to take on any project and utilizes her experience and professionalism to get the job done. This past year she has stepped in as the administrative associate for both the Department of Management and Department of Economics while they were searching for a new employee, leading to a seamless transition.
Peter Morales, assistant director of graduate business career services, was the recipient of the Dean’s Excellence Award for Community Service and Outreach. Morales works diligently to conduct outreach on behalf of the college. He is an active member and past president of the San Antonio Chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs. He also serves as a member of the supervisory committee for San Antonio Credit Union. His community involvement allows him to advocate for UTSA students and to help secure internship and employment opportunities for students.
