Business Faculty Honored at University Convocation

College of Business faculty members were honored at the university's Faculty Honors Convocation in May.
Dr. Tom Cannon, senior lecturer in the Department of Marketing, received the President's Distinguished
Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence for non-tenure track faculty. Cannon is director of the Tourism Management Program.
He was unanimously selected by the committee to receive this award. He was honored for his creativity in the classroom and
his devotion to students through mentoring, internships and independent study. Dr. Cannon spends considerable time on educational
activities and conferences to enlighten his students with his knowledge and to learn from others through workshops.
Dr. Ashwani Monga, assistant professor of marketing, received the President's Distinguished Achievement
Award for Research Achievement for tenure-track faculty. Since coming to UTSA in 2004, he has published four articles in
top journals ranked in the top 25 percent of his discipline. His research and teaching interests are in the field of consumer
behavior. His specific expertise is how and why product information is processed differently by consumers.
In recognition of her efforts to expand UTSA’s involvement in the global arena, Dr. Victoria Jones, associate
professor of marketing and director of the Business Studies for the Americas Program, received the President's Distinguished
Achievement Award for Advancing Globalization. Dr. Jones has worked the advancement of globalization into all facets of
her job. She has launched a Global Business Club for students, developed an international seminar series, created innovative
immersion programs and has redesigned the curriculum for the college’s International MBA program. In addition, she has reinvigorated
international partnerships in the college through memberships in EFMD, CLADEA and BALAS. Just this year, the college was
named the headquarters of BALAS under her leadership.
College of Business faculty were also recognized for their distinguished service to the university. Dale Truett,
professor of economics, received his 35-year service pin. Lalatendu Misra, chair of the Department of Finance,
was honored for 30 years of service. Completing 25 years of service were Juan Gonzalez, associate dean for
the Downtown Campus,and Rodolpho Sandoval, associate professor of management. And, honored for 20 years
of service were Fathali Firoozi, professor of economics, James Groff, chair of the Department
of Accounting, Daniel Hollas, senior associate dean, Richard Utecht, associate professor
of marketing and Diane Walz, associate dean for graduate studies and research.
