College Staff Members Honored for Accomplishment

The
College of Business honored the accomplishments of staff members during an awards reception May 2. The Dean's Excellence
Awards were instituted by Dean Lynda de la Viña to recognize the accomplishments of professional and classified
staff members who excel in their job duties in the college.
Two recipients were selected for the Dean’s Excellence Award. Wendy Frost serves as the director of communications
for the college. Since joining the college in 2001, she has been instrumental in developing a cohesive and comprehensive
marketing plan for the College of Business which includes the re-branding efforts of the college through its publications
and Web site. In addition, she oversees and coordinates all events sponsored by the college. Her nominator credited her
with being a “team players that displays her leadership in a positive way.”
Araceli Pacheco, administrative associate in the Department of Economics, has been with the college for
three years. She was noted for her patient, friendly and professional demeanor and for her enthusiasm for all tasks. She
has efficiently organized her department and won the praise of her faculty members that she supports. Most recently she
stepped up and helped run the department last summer while her chair was out ill.
The final Dean’s Award was presented for excellence in community outreach and service. This year’s recipient is Joel
Janecek, academic advisor in undergraduate advising. Since joining the college last year, Joel has demonstrated
himself to be a dedicated team player who is passionate for his work in the college. He volunteers much of his free time
to help local children reach their fitness goals by volunteering with the San Antonio Heat AAU Track Club. He is the assistant
coach of a co-ed team and averages about 10 hours a week in these duties. He was commended for his ability to serve as
a role model for these children.
